India vs England: India should include Kuldeep Yadav in the 2nd Test – Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is of the opinion that India should include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the next Test that gets underway on February 13. Kuldeep, who hasn’t played Test cricket for almost two years was a high possibility in the first Test at Chennai, following an injury to Axar Patel but Virat Kohli instead opted for Shahbaz Nadeem, a player who wasn’t even in the initial squad. Gavaskar feels that the Indian bowling attack needs a variety and playing Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin doesn’t make much sense. He further stated that Shahbaz Nadeem looked a little nervous in the first match

“Maybe in the hindsight, they could have included Kuldeep Yadav a bit of variety. Because you have two off-spinners Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

“Maybe they will bring Kuldeep Yadav for the next Test in place of Nadeem or Washington Sundar, whoever it is. But they need to look at dismissing England for lesser than what they scored this around. I think, Shahbaz Nadeem got just a little bit nervous. I’m not even talking about the way he bowls but the no-balls it’s always an indication that the bowler is a little too anxious.
“And particularly spinner anxious to get it going. And when that happens, you tend to overstep. It happened with Ashwin as well. After a long time, he bowled a no-ball. India have plenty of thinking to do as they can’t afford to lose any more matches in the series if they’re to qualify for final of the World Test Championship. They need to win the series by at least a margin of 2-1 to face New Zealand in the summit clash.
