England’s policy of resting players continues as Chris Woakes becomes the latest addition to the list. The all-rounder has been reported to have left the biosecure bubble of the ongoing Test series between India and England has flown back home to get his due rest. Woakes had come with the touring party to Sri Lanka, then travelled to India. Take a look our betwinner review.

Unfortunately for Woakes, he couldn’t play a single match while he was in the sub-continent. He sat through the two Tests in Sri Lanka and then three Tests in India. England have been doing this to ensure that all their players are fit for the hectic schedule which they have this year.

England is scheduled to host India and New Zealand during the English summer for five and two Tests respectively. After this, there is a T20 World Cup in India, followed by the much-anticipated Ashes tour of Australia later in December 2021. Woakes is not supposed to be with the white-ball tour, just like his skipper Joe Root.

It has been reported that Woakes left the biosecure bubble in Ahmedabad on Thursday (February 25) and travelled back to England. The all-rounder will return to India to play in the Indian Premier League, where he will represent Delhi Capitals.

Before Woakes, Moeen Ali, another important all-rounder to the England squad, was sent back after the second Test match against India in Chennai. Ali is expected to return to the country for the limited-overs leg. Jonny Bairstow was sent back to England after the two Tests in Sri Lanka and returned for the third and fourth Test against India. India are leading the four-match Test series by 2-1. England’s chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship final ended with their loss in the third Test in Ahmedabad. If India win or draw the last match, they will qualify for the final where they will play New Zealand. If England win the match, then Australia will qualify.
