Ashes: “I Felt Like We Left Something Behind in 2019,” Says Pat Cummins
As Australia begins their WTC Finals and the Ashes journey, captain Pat Cummins speaks about his team’s previous tour to England and the preparations for the upcoming games. Australia’s last tour to England was in 2019 but back then Pat Cummins was just a player. Things have changed and so have the duties as the fast bowler will now serve as the captain of the side.

After Tim Paine’s decision to step away from cricket, Pat Cummins was given the responsibility to lead Australia right before the 2021 Ashes. The fast-bowling captain succeeded in his job and took his team to a 4-0 victory. Now, England is a changed side with a new captain, a new coach, and a better side. Pat Cummins, however, has given the warning to their arch-rivals, stating that the Australian side will try to overcome the mistakes they made on the 2019 tour.

“The core of our side is similar this time around to 2019,” says Pat Cummins
“I felt like we left something behind in 2019. I think the second and third Tests were both ours to win. And, obviously, the fifth Test we didn’t play particularly well. Those opportunities are rare over in England. And we just didn’t quite grab a couple that came up. But again, the core of our side is similar this time around to 2019 – as is theirs – so hopefully we’re better for it,” Pat Cummins said. After addressing the questions about Ashes, the captain backed his veteran opener, David Warner.

“Looking from afar, he looks like he’s done a fantastic job for Delhi. I’m sure he’ll bring that fire for the World Test Championship final, where he walks out there and puffs the chest out and is a pretty formidable opener,” Pat Cummins said. Australia will play against India first in the World Test Championship Finals on June 7 to June 11. This will be followed by the Ashes beginning from June 16 to July 31.
