ICC Test Rankings: After Ashes Win, Australia Pip New Zealand, India to Become No. 1 Side
Australia have pipped New Zealand and India to become the No. 1 Test side, according to the latest ICC Rankings.
This comes after Australia’s 4-0 victory over England in the Ashes.
Following the series loss to South Africa, India have dropped to No. 3 in the ICC Test Rankings, while New Zealand are second in the list.
Pat Cummins-led Australia defeated England in the Tests in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart but narrowly missed a victory in Sydney, where the English tail fought hard to take a draw. The Test series triumph meant, Australia went past the World Test Champions and the runners-up to take the top spot with 119 points. Here’s our BBL match prediction.
New Zealand reclaim 2nd spot
New Zealand retained their second place with 117 points after their drawn Test series at home to Bangladesh. The series also saw the BlackCaps suffer their first loss to the Asian side in 32 meetings, across formats, at the international level. New Zealand, however, levelled the two-match Test series by winning the second game by an innings and 117 runs.
The 2-1 series defeat to South Africa left India with 116 points. India started the series with a win in Centurion but the hosts made an emphatic comeback in Johannesburg and Cape Town, which also pushed Dean Elgar and Co to fifth place with 101 points, while Pakistan are down to sixth with 93.
