Shakib Al Hasan’s Ongoing Struggle: Navigating a Retinal Challenge Amidst Cricket Controversies
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued an update on Shakib Al Hasan’s health, confirming that he is suffering from Extrafoveal Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSR). The medical advisory recommends a conservative approach to address the issue. Dr. Debashis Chowdhary, BCB’s senior physician, explained, “Shakib is experiencing subtle problems with his left eye. After consulting with ophthalmologists locally and internationally and undergoing several eye examinations, he was diagnosed with Extrafoveal Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSR) in the left eye.”
The medical team overseeing Shakib’s case is optimistic about effectively managing the situation through a traditional approach. During the ODI World Cup 2023, Shakib’s performance was impacted, scoring 186 runs at an average of 26.57 in seven matches. Bangladesh finished in the eighth position with two wins in nine games.
Shakib Al Hasan made headlines before the World Cup due to conflicts with former captain Tamim Iqbal. Tamim withdrew from the ODI World Cup, citing reluctance to play in the middle order. Shakib criticized Tamim’s behavior, labeling it as childish and urging him to play for the team’s benefit. Shakib suggested that Tamim could learn selflessness from players like Rohit Sharma.
Currently participating in the Bangladesh Premier League, Shakib represents the Rangpur Raiders with a contract worth 40 crore Bangladesh Rupees. The Raiders are currently third in the BPL 2024 points table with one win in two games.
