Harmanpreet Kaur To Miss WBBL Because Of Back Injury

Melbourne Renegades has announced Eve Jones as the replacement for Harmanpreet Kaur after the Indian captain opted to miss the WBBL after a back injury. In the 2 games that they played, it was understood that Kaur was given rest after a long Asia Cup. However, the club gave a statement confirming her unavailability for the season. Harmanpreet also expressed her sadness over not being able to participate.

“Harmanpreet was fantastic for us last season and we were looking forward to having her as part of our squad again this year, but unfortunately she has been ruled out through injury. Eve will stay on with our squad for at least the next couple of matches, as we work through the best strategy for our squad for the remainder of the tournament,” General Manager, James Rosengarten said.

The Melbourne Renegades, who had a victory and a defeat in their first two WBBL games, were hoping to benefit from a star hitter. Kaur had a 41.4 run average over 12 innings in the previous edition, scoring 406 runs. She earned the September player of the month honours while guiding India to its eighth Asia Cup victory. Harmanpreet Kaur isn’t the only Indian player to participate in the WBBL tournament. Jemimah Rodrigues will represent Melbourne star and Pooja Vastrakar will play for Brisbane Heats.

Melbourne Renegades has played one game against Adelaide Strikers that they won and another one against Brisbane Heats that they lost. Their next game is on Friday with Brisbane Heat and then on Monday with Adelaide Strikers. In the current points table, Melbourne Renegades are at 5th position with 2 points. The WBBL started on October 13th and the finals will be played on November 20th. The Renegades are still in the search of their first WBBL title.
