However, once the wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh joined Ellyse Perry, the run-scoring improved as the duo posted 74 runs in less than 6 overs. Ghosh hits 3 fours and 3 sixes in his 37 before getting dismissed. Perry remained unbeaten on 67 with 4 fours and 5 sixes as she took the team total to 150/4 in their allocated 20 overs. Shikha Pandey picked up 3 for 23 in her four overs as Tara Norris picked up the other wicket from Delhi Capitals Women.

The DC Women’s chase did not start on a great note as Shafali Verma was dismissed first ball by Megan Schutt. Alice Capsey was the early enforcer as she raced to a 24-ball 38 during the Powerplay before one of her attempted lofted shots was caught by Perry at the boundary line. Meg Lanning could not get going and was next to dismiss for 15 off 18 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues made another important contribution of 32 runs but when she became Sobhana Asha’s second wicket, DC Women’s still required 42 runs in 33 deliveries. Despite some tight bowling the experienced Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen kept their cool and with 9 required of the last over consecutive six and four by Jonassen took them to their 4th win of the tournament.

The losing captain, Smriti Mandhana said after RCB’s consecutive defeats,

Really good effort by our bowlers to take it till the 20th over. Definitely a lot of improvements but a lot of things to work on still. The partnership got us into the game, they both batted brilliantly. They used their experience to get us to a defendable total. Not the best of the starts, including my batting. The first 14 overs really hurt us, even 10-15 runs more would have helped. Towards the fag-end of the tournament, the wickets are going to get slower. Even in the last game, spinners got the ball to turn and pace-off and slower balls were working.

The winning captain of Delhi Capitals, Meg Lanning said,

It was close in the end there, JJ and Kappy did an excellent job to keep their composure. We got ahead and RCB bowled well to come back, nice to get over the line. It would have been nice to finish it earlier but the wicket got slower. Having two experienced batters at the end helped. We just executed really well, if you hit a good length, that’s the most effective way to bowl. A lot to learn from this game. To get a win under pressure will do wonders for our team. I am trying to stay calm – that’s T20 cricket for you, you are under the pump all the time. Shikha Pandey has been under the radar, she is bowling really well and having Kapp and Jess Jonassen on the field helps as well.
