Earlier, UP Warriorz won the toss and decided to bat first. Their batting was built around one significant partnership of 82 runs between the captain Alyssa Healy and the all-rounder Tahlia McGrath. They both scored half-centuries as no other Warriorz’ batter could make an impactful contribution. The Mumbai bowlers were on the money from the beginning led by the star of the tournament Saika Ishaque. Ishaque picked up a wicket in her first over to break the opening partnership and then later came back to break the partnership between Healy and McGrath as she dismissed both of them. She finished with 3 for 33 and fellow spinner Amelia Kerr picked up 2 for 33 as UP Warriorz scored 159/6 with Healy top scoring with 58.

Yastika Bhatia led the Mumbai response initially as Hayley Matthews was not in touch. However, both Bhatia (42) and Matthews (12) were dismissed with a score of 58 and it looked like Warrriorz can make a comeback. But the duo of Natalia Sciver-Brunt and Kaur was too strong for Warriorz bowlers and they added 106 runs in an unbeaten partnership to take Mumbai to another comfortable victory. The captain Kaur got the Player-of-the-match for her unbeaten 53 as Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten on 45.

WPL 2023: Captains speak
The losing captain, Alyssa Healy said,
We were probably 16-20 short, we just couldn’t finish well and probably a batter short. It wasn’t an easy wicket, we couldn’t find the boundary as often as we would have liked. We will see how we can be better. We will turn up in 2 days time, play RCB and move on. We want to be a really good fielding side and take opportunities. We are working really hard, trying really hard which is what we want to be as a team and hopefully the results go our way.
The winning captain and the player of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur said,
Very happy with the performance. The way we are gelling together I think this is the best tournament so far. Thanks to Nat, she played really well. Because of her I got some time to settle in and later play some shots. The way they were batting, we were a bit tense, but I knew one or two wickets could get momentum back into our favour. We were calculating how many overs were left and which bowlers to target, and that’s what cricket is all about. You gotta express yourself and pick your targets. We just need to keep doing the right things.
