RCB Women won the toss but could not take advantage. Sophie Devine started briskly but Mandhana had her fourth failure as she was dismissed for four by Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Devine and Ellyse Perry then added 44 runs which was the best phase of the match for RCB. However, the introduction of the spinners Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone had a big impact on the game. Ecclestone broke the partnership by dismissing Devine and then ran through the lower order to finish with 4 for 13. Sharma picked up three wickets for 26 runs including the wicket of Perry who scored 52. Eventually, RCB Women were all out for just 138 in the 20th over.

The Warriorz’s chase started in a great fashion as they raced to 55 for no loss in the Powerplay. Captain Alyssa Healy was the main destructor as she raced to a 29-ball fifty. She got good support from the all-rounder Devika Vaidya as the duo soon reached a 100-run partnership in the 10th over. The duo remained unbeaten as the chase was completed in the 13th over. Healy remained unbeaten on 96 and missed his century by just four runs. Mandhana used 7 bowlers but failed to get a breakthrough.

Score: UP Warriorz 139/0 beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 138/10 by 10 wickets

WPL 2023: Captains speak

The losing captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, Smriti Mandhana said,

In the last four games it’s been happening. We start well and then lose a cluster of wickets. I take the blame as well. Need to get runs on the board for the bowlers to defend. Overs 7-15 we spoke about getting 7-8 per over. Didn’t work out today. We’re trying to get a balanced team. Let’s see how it goes. I’ve tried to speak to all the players about it. We’ll have to keep doing it. Last one week has been really tough on the team. Lots to reflect, lots to work on. Should admit last week has been really tough. Lot of people have reached out to me. As international cricketers we have faced these situations. I have my family around me.

The winning captain and player of the match, Alyssa Healy said,

Really pleased with our bowlers tonight to keep them under 200. Full credit to the spinners as they held their nerve and took wickets at crucial times. It was spin to win tonight. It was a good batting wicket and the spinners did a fine job. Shweta is only a baby and coming into such a competition is difficult. We watched Vaidya in the recent series (against India) and wondered what she was doing at number 7, she played a fine knock and took the pressure off me. We just set the platform early and by the timeout we needed run a ball, we didn’t want to drag it too long.
