WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians won yesterday’s match against Delhi Capitals

Interestingly Delhi Capitals won the toss and Meg Lanning chose to bat first. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Mumbai Indians clearly said that the side does not depend on the toss much. Mumbai went on to prove the skipper right and Delhi Capitals were all out for 105. Lanning carried the innings alone for a while before Jemimah Rodrigues joined. However, the Purple Cap holder Saika Ishaque sent both of them back in the same over. That was all for Delhi Capitals as they collapsed almost in no time. Issy Wong and Ishaque ended with three wickets each Hayley Matthews took two.
The chase looked like a formality to Mumbai Indians. Yastika Bhatis scored 41 and Matthews added 32 runs before being dismissed. Nat Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten on 19-ball 23 and Kaur added 11 runs off 8 balls. Mumbai Indians completed the chase successfully in 15 overs with eight wickets in hand.

WPL 2023: Captains speak
The losing captain of Delhi Capitals, Meg Lanning said,

Hindsight’s a wonderful thing. But we were in a similar position after the 12-over mark. Mumbai bowled excellently. That’s the game – sometimes it doesn’t go your way. The pitch definitely had something in it for the bowlers, which is a good thing. You can’t go out there looking at 180 from the start. Need to build partnerships. That’s what we weren’t able to do today. I thought Rodrigues came out and attacked the bowling. Capsey’s bowling beautifully. Hopefully I can keep contributing and we have a few more wins in us.
Harmanpreet Kaur, after registering three back-to-back wins, said,
Today our bowlers did really well. They’re making my job easier. Whoever comes in is eager to bowl. When you have so many options, your job is so easy. Credit to our bowlers. Bowling according to the field is key in T20s and we’re able to do that. After the last game we all discussed that we bowled some bad balls. Yastika and Hayley gave us a really good start. Now the tournament is going to start because the pitches are going to be on the slower side.
