MS Dhoni announced his international retirement on August 15, 2020, a year after he played his last game. It was a sad day for the fans to see their idol retire. But Dhoni said that he announced his retirement a year after the moment when he decided to retire. In a promotional event in Bangalore, Dhoni said that he decided that the 2019 semifinal was his last game for India when he got run out and was going back to the dugout.
MS Dhoni said, “It is difficult to control the emotions in a close game, especially when you have lost. Inside, I am done with my planning. To me, that was the last day I played cricket for India, even though I announced my retirement one year later. But the fact was, that day I retired.”
MS Dhoni is still playing in the Indian Premier League and has led the Chennai Super Kings to five titles. Recently, he led CSK to win the IPL 2023, beating the Gujarat Titans in the final. There were rumors that he might take his IPL retirement after 2023, but Dhoni confirmed that he would be coming back next season for the fans.
