Former Australian pacer Brett Lee reckons that Tim David will play a big part in Australia’s title defence in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

David burst onto the scene after his heroics for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) a few years back and since then, he has become a renowned name in the world of T20 cricket. In his short T20I career for Australia and Singapore, David has already scored 674 runs at an average of 39.44 along with a blistering strike rate of 160.47. Those numbers are just frightening for any opposition.

In his latest column with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Australian legend said that the addition of David has bolstered the lineup and that makes Australia a stronger team than they were in the 2021 edition of the tournament.

“The fact that Tim David is the new face in the team is an indication of the stability of The defending champions, and a big reason why I think they could do it again and go back-to-back,” Brett Lee wrote in his column for ICC.

In recent times, Australia’s pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummings have shown signs of struggle. Despite that Lee is not ready to write off the seasoned campaigners.

“If they are going to do that, the bowlers will probably need to pick it up after the big guns struggled in Canberra, but write off Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood at your peril. Those guys have done it time and again on the big stage, and will thrive in the Aussie conditions,”

This is the first time that T20 World Cup is being staged in Australia and Lee believes that the home conditions give the defending champions an extra edge over other participating teams.

“Between their experience and the talent with both bat and ball, there is no reason why Australia should not be right in the mix at the business end of the tournament. And considering this is the first time the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is being played in Australia, expect it to be an amazing event with the crowds cheering on Aaron Finch and the guys – starting with an electric atmosphere at the SCG,” Lee concluded.
