MI played against the defending champion Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. GT had a thrashing win and didn’t allow Mumbai to come into the game. Mumbai found it hard first with the ball, as they conceded runs in the end. Then, they suffered with the bat as well and couldn’t keep up with the required run rate. Chasing the target, Rohit also looked rusty and got out after an 8-ball 2 runs. Other batters also struggled against the disciplined line and length from the GT bowlers. In the end, it was too big of a target for the five-time champion to chase.

GT vs MI: “Rohit Sharma should take a break”- Sunil Gavaskar after MI’s loss against GT
Batting first, Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth total of 207/6 in the first inning. Shubman Gill (56 off 34) scored a half-century and Abhinav Manohar (42 off 21) and David Miller (46 off 22) also contributed well. For MI, no batters reached the 50-run mark and the highest was Nehal Wadhera with 40 off 21, which came when the game went out of hand.

Former Indian great Sunil Gavaskar reckons MI needs to do some changes in the batting order and if required Rohit should take a break. In a discussion on Star Sports, he said,
“I would like to see some change in the batting order [for Mumbai Indians]. Honestly, I would also say that Rohit should maybe also take a break for the time being, and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship [final]. [He can] come back again for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a breather himself.”
MI is currently in the bottom half of the table with four losses and three wins. Gavaskar believes that it will be huge if Mumbai can qualify from the stage they are at the moment. But for that, they need to do well in both departments of the game, which they haven’t done so far. MI will now square off against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at home.
