IPL 2022: Why We Could See a Brand New Champion in IPL Upcoming Edition
IPL 2022: It’s quite interesting that the Indian Premier League, a tournament built on excitement, competitiveness, and unpredictability, has seen the same two teams triumph over the past five editions. Mumbai Indians (thrice) and Chennai Super Kings (twice) have reigned supreme since Sunrisers Hyderabad’s triumph way back in 2016, putting the onus on other teams to up their game.

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction provided teams with the opportunity to make a fresh start. While some players went back to their team from 2021, a number of stars find themselves at a new franchise keen to make a mark. With this in mind, there is every chance that we could see a new champion in IPL 2022. Here are a few reasons why,
IPL 2022: 5 Reasons why IPL 2022 Can Have New Champion
1. 5 of the 10 teams in IPL 2022 are looking for a maiden title
Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are not here to just make up the numbers. After a busy and strategic auction, both franchises will be seeking to make an immediate impact, which is sure to add another dimension to IPL 2022.
The Super Giants and Titans join the determined Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings in the search for a maiden title. This makes up half the teams in the tournament, and all five outfits are capable of producing the goods on their day.
2. Delhi Capitals determined to go that bit further
David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, and Rishabh Pant represent a superb top four. Such a top-order can deliver great results, particularly if Shaw and Pant can deliver as their potential suggests they should.
Also, Shardul Thakur provides a genuine wicket-taking option, especially in the middle overs. Anrich Nortje was so good in 2021 that Delhi chose to retain him, and the likes of Axar Patel make up a decent core of the attack.
Verdict: DC will be thereabouts once again, but must overcome a lack of depth in their spin department and find ways to take wickets regularly in the powerplay. Looking for IPL betting tips
3. Punjab Kings: The best auction of any team?
Punjab Kings, arguably the most disappointing franchise in IPL history, entered the Mega Auction seeking a fresh start. They had the biggest purse of any team, and they spent well, putting together a formidable top four of Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone.
Also, they landed Kagiso Rabada for less than 10 crores in what could be a terrific deal for the franchise. His partnership with Arshdeep Singh will make for interesting viewing, but a lot will be required from the Indian support cast including Rahul Chahar and Sandeep Sharma.
Verdict: They have qualified for the playoffs just twice in 14 seasons. The Kings have what it takes to break the drought here, and they can challenge any team on their day. However, bowling well as a unit and finishing well with the bat will be their key challenges.

4. Fresh start for RCB, first title?
Virat Kohli is no longer captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore come in with a new-look team. Faf du Plessis is now the star South African in the side after the retirement of AB de Villiers, which puts a heavier load on Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik in the finishing department.
The area RCB are arguably stronger in is in their bowling – the key facet of the game they have neglected for many years. Since 2020, RCB has focused on a solid bowling core, and they have gone for more of the same here with Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood forming the core of a potent bowling attack.
Verdict: RCB’s bowling attack can keep them in matches. However, will they rely too much on their top four? Plus, can Kohli overcome his struggles against spin in the middle overs? Time will tell.
5. Mumbai Indians’ bowling perhaps not as strong
Mumbai Indians’ batting looks strong, but their bowling attack looks a little short on quality apart from Bumrah, particularly in the domestic seamers department.
They have their eyes set on the Bumrah-Archer partnership for 2023, which presents an opportunity for the other franchises to pounce this year. Who knows, it could be a new team to lift the cup in 2022.
Expect IPL 2022 to be one full of surprises and unpredictability. Champions Chennai Super Kings look strong once again, but the teams searching for a first title will be chomping at the bit to get started as they have the talent to produce when it counts.
