The destructive and dashing opener Finn Allen scored 42 runs in just 16 balls with 5 fours and 3 massive sixes. A good attacking start in the powerplay for New Zealand by both openers. While defending the target they swiped out Australia at 111, Australia’s first loss against the black caps in Australia in white-ball cricket since February 2009, and also 111 was the lowest total of Australia at their home.
At the post-match presentation, Aaron Finch said that there is no point thinking about the defeat against the Kiwis they need to focus on the upcoming matches in the multi-nation tournament.
“The fact that we’ve lost one game, yes, it’s a heavy loss and it hurts our chances, no doubt. We can’t dwell on that, we can’t change it. All we can do is concentrate on the next game and prepare really well for that against Sri Lanka (on Tuesday) and see how we go.
“We’ve taken the fate out of our own hands, I think to a point. We need to be ultra-positive, ultra-aggressive, and I’m sure that we’ll all do that. We’ve got the right players to win the World Cup”.
“We still feel as though we’ve got the right structure of team and we’ve got the right players to win the World Cup. Obviously it’s taken a big hit with the net run rate. When that happens, you need to play well. We need to get better quickly. As I said, you need a bit of luck in T20 cricket as well as in such a brutal tournament. I think we’ve still got the right structure of the team, there’s no doubt about that.”
Even after a heavy margin defeat against the Blackcaps, Aaron Finch was confident about the squad winning the World cup.
