IPL 2023: When Delhi Capitals play Chennai Super Kings in their final league match of the IPL 2023 season, assistant coach Shane Watson thinks the team has much to play for. Notably, the David Warner-led team is already out of the postseason picture. However, the game will still be very important because they can ruin CSK’s playoff hopes. And surpass the Sunrisers Hyderabad, now last in the IPL points standings. Regarding DC’s performance this season, the former Australia international said the young players have grown. He anticipates that they will give their best efforts in the following seasons of the lucrative league.

“We Can Perform Well”, Shane Watson

“We certainly have much to play for as a franchise and individually (against CSK). Hopefully, we can perform well and take confidence from our win against Punjab Kings. There has been a lot of progress and development for the younger Indian batters during this season. We’ve been working with individual players to help them grow quickly. This year has played a big part in the younger players’ development; hopefully, we’ve set them up for the upcoming seasons.”

Watson mentioned in the pre-match press conference

When Prithvi Shaw was reinserted into the starting XI for the most recent game against the Punjab Kings, he played some solid cricket, scoring 54 runs in 38 deliveries. He set the tone for the game, which DC ultimately won by 15 runs over the Shikhar Dhawan-led team. In his analysis of Shaw’s performance during the 16th edition of the event, Watson said that the opener was largely unimpressive but that after a break, he returned with more zeal.

Squad Equation In Delhi Capitals

“One of the most disappointing parts for DC this season was Prithvi Shaw. He’s one of the most beautiful batters to watch and take down the best bowling with his skills and knowledge that we gave him a big stretch to find his feet. We also knew he had been slightly inconsistent in the past few years, but after missing out on a few games, he centralized and focused on what direction he wanted to go. Because he’s so incredibly skilled with the bat in hand, he needs to bring every part of the game together.”

A few players were expected to stand up for DC captain Rishabh Pant to keep the young, dynamic team balanced. However, some players were able to rise to the occasion, while others fell short of expectations. The young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw was the most well-known player for DC this season.
