Suresh Raina’s International and IPL career
Suresh Raina had an illustrious career of around 16 years where he amassed 6871 runs in 109 first-class games, 8078 runs in 302 list A games, and 8654 runs in 336 T20 matches. Raina made his international debut in 2005 and has played 226 ODIs, 78 T20Is and 18 Test matches. He was a member of the World Cup-winning squad in 2011. Raina has several records to his name, including being the first Indian cricketer to score international centuries in all three formats.
Raina has been one of the finest cricketers to have ever played in the IPL. He was a key figure for the Chennai Super Kings, whom he represented for 11 seasons from 2008 to 2021. The southpaw is still the highest scorer in the IPL with 4687 runs in 176 matches. He was released from the franchise after the 2021 edition and was unsold in the last season’s auction.
Suresh Raina Retirement: What’s next for the former Indian left-hander?
Raina himself informed that he has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). Also, he has informed the BCCI as well about his decision.
With this decision, he is now eligible to take part in the Road Safety World Series and Overseas T20 leagues. If Raina will be a part of the upcoming RSWS, the batting department of the team would be stronger. With Sachin Tendulkar leading the side, Raina is ready to play in the middle-order in the tournament, which would include his former teammate Yuvraj Singh.
The cricketer from Uttar Pradesh also informed us that various T20 leagues from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and UAE have contacted him to play, but he hasn’t taken any decision yet. However, with NOC in his hands now, Raina would definitely like to be a part of some overseas leagues. Which will help him to stay connected with the game and prolong his cricketing career by 2-3 years.
