IPL 2022: Five Best Bargains Of IPL 2022 Auction
1. Dinesh Karthik: 330 runs at 55 AVG & 183.3 SR (5.5 crores INR)
Dinesh Karthik was among the most impactful players of the season, and arguably the best finisher in the competition. The RCB wicketkeeper-batter made quite a few match-winning contributions after coming in difficult match situations as well as some short yet effective contributions.
The highlight of this amazing season was his classy hitting against pace-bowling. In overs 16-20, the right-handed batter averaged 113 with a strike rate of over 240 against fast bowlers. Karthik has been rewarded with a place in the national T20 side, and he will look to cement his spot now.
2. Aiden Markram: 381 runs at 47.62 AVG & 139.05 SR (2.6 crores INR)
Aiden Markram became a bankable option for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the middle order this season. While he took a bit of time against spinners in the middle overs (7-15), as indicated by his strike rate of 123, Markram did a fine job overall. The South African batter was excellent against the pacers. He averaged 46.25 runs per dismissal with a strike rate of over 166 against pace-bowling post powerplay. Markram had some useful partnerships with Rahul Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran, which covered up for Kane Williamson’s poor run.
3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 12 wickets at 31.9 AVG & 7.34 ECO (4.2 crores INR)
While auction dynamics had a part to play in Bhuvneshwar’s low price, it was also a result of his middling returns in the previous seasons. But, he stepped up nicely this season. Although Bhuvi didn’t have many wickets many to his name, he bowled quite a few world-class spells throughout the season.
The Indian pacer bowled some threatening powerplay spells without getting rewarded for it. While Bhuvi averaged 32.9 with an economy of 10 in overs 16-20 during IPL 2018-21, he brought these figures down to 20.6 and 8.79 respectively, this season. The Indian team would hope that their star pacer in white-ball cricket continues to be effective.
4. Kuldeep Yadav: 21 wickets at 19.95 AVG & 8.43 ECO (2 crores INR)
Kuldeep Yadav, who hasn’t had the best of the times in recent years, particularly in the IPL, made an excellent comeback this season. He was the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the competition and the most successful bowler for his side. As Axar Patel’s performance took a hit this time around, Kuldeep stood tall.
While his economy was on the bit higher side, it was still a fine season for Kuldeep as he picked up many wickets. If the wrist-spinner continues to sharpen his defensive skills, he is likely to enjoy a good consistent run in the white-ball cricket for India. 5. David Miller 481 runs at 68.71 AVG & 142.72 SR (3 crores INR)
David Miller went unsold in the first round of the IPL 2022 auction and was finally bought for just 3 crores. However, Miller turned the tables around and ended the season as one of the most valuable players for Gujarat Titans. This was his best IPL season after 2014.
The southpaw took a bit of time at the start of his innings but he ensured to get things done by finishing the games off. Miller also made some important contributions in playoff matches. His excellent run covered up for Gujarat’s light batting unit!
