WI VS IND: 2022 has been quite a year for Hardik Pandya. After losing his place in the Indian side due to injury, the star all-rounder made a roaring comeback to competitive cricket setting the IPL stage on fire. He has continued his superb form into the international circuit and currently looks undroppable from the T20I side. Ex-Australian player Glenn McGrath too has echoed the same in his recent interview. WI VS IND: “Hardik Pandya is an Intelligent Bowler,” Says Glenn McGrath

“He is two players in one.”

Glenn McGrath on Hardik Pandya

McGrath is of the opinion that cricket is a game of confidence and the same applies to Hardik Pandya as well. If he is bowling well, it has a positive impact on his batting, the former Australian seamer said. He also added that Hardik’s ability to play dual roles makes him a luxury for the Indian side. He also praised the 28-year-old’s game plan, calling him a “good, intelligent bowler” along with a “powerful hitter”.

Hardik has been in fine form with the bat in hand this year. Batting in the top four for Gujarat Titans, he accumulated 487 runs at a strike rate of 131.27. This came after a forgettable 2021 season where he struggled to make any notable contribution to Mumbai Indians. However, all those are things of the past as a rejuvenated Hardik Pandya turned up for India this year. With scores of 46(31), 31*(21), 31*(12), 24(12), and 51(33), he has nailed his spot in the middle order. Add to that his seven wickets in nine innings this year and it is hard to imagine a T20 World Cup eleven without him. “Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. They have got a few challenges.”

Glenn McGrath

At a time when ODI cricket is struggling for relevance, several cricket experts have been doubtful of the format’s future. Speaking on the same, McGrath called himself a “traditionalist” and said that he loves Tests and ODIs. Test cricket is his favourite format and he hopes that it is preserved for years to come. He also added that One-Day Internationals will remain exciting as long as they involve big scores from both teams. He agreed that the officials have a task at their hands trying to keep the format alive. It is necessary to keep making the game exciting, the three-time World Cup winner said.
