ENG VS IND: Michael Vaughan Impressed With India’s New Mindset
ENG VS IND: For long has the cricket fraternity blamed India for being too conservative in T20Is. Former English captain Michael Vaughan was also one of them until yesterday. The Indian side is receiving applause for its attacking mindset in the two T20Is against England, and Vaughan too joined the list of admirers. Want to bet on cricket on the move? ENG VS IND: India’s Approach in T20Is
“If they can commit themselves to this process of playing aggressive cricket, they have certainly got the ingredients to produce an incredible ‘T20 World Cupcake’.”

Start strong, keep wickets in hand through the middle and explode at the death. This mantra has brought India a lot of success in the ODI format. But T20 is a different ball game. Here, teams are willing to sacrifice wickets in a bid for quick runs. The role of anchors has become redundant and teams want their players to adopt a fearless approach while batting. After treating T20s as a shortened 50-over game for a long time, Rohit Sharma’s men are finally adhering to the demands of the game, as was visible in their recent two games.

Michael Vaughan had been calling for this shift in perspective for quite some time now. Speaking on Cricbuzz’s YouTube channel, Vaughan admitted that India has finally cracked the T20 code. According to him, they have a real chance of lifting the World Cup trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, if they stick to this mindset. Michael Vaughan Believes India Have a Real Chance of Winning the World Cup
Vaughan was all praise for India’s excellent recovery from 89/5. The visiting country eventually finished with a score of 170, thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s skillful 46*(29). Vaughan further spoke about India’s “mindset, aggression and skill-set” with both bat and ball. He believes the team has nailed their approach and combination at the right time and will be a force to reckon with in the T20 World Cup this year. He also mentioned that the return of KL Rahul will only make the team stronger.
Some of the scores by Indian batsmen this series read 24(14), 33(17), 39(19), 31(20), 26(15) and 15(11). While these are not what one would consider matchwinning knocks, their combined effect has led to the team scoring runs at a quick pace. On one hand there are Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda who thrive on scoring these quick runs.
However, even the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli seem to have taken to this approach. Both of them lost their wickets trying to up the ante at a time when they would have looked to build the innings a few years back. This is a welcome change in the management’s thought process and it will be interesting to see how far is the team willing to take this approach.
