Ricky Ponting on Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant, who mostly bats at no. 4 or 5 for India, has had an average T20 International career so far. With Dinesh Karthik making the headlines thanks to his sensational IPL performances, Pant’s spot in the Indian XI is not completely fixed. But his IPL coach believes that Pant can prove to be “exceptionally dangerous” in “fast and bouncy” Australian conditions during the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ponting wants India to use him as a “floater” in their star-studded batting lineup.
“He [Pant] is a wonderful player. He is just an outstanding young man, who has got the world at his feet. And he’ll be exceptionally dangerous for India, especially on the wickets we’ll provide in Australia…. good flat, fast, bouncy wickets. He’ll be one of the players to watch out [for] in the tournament [T20 World Cup] for sure.”

IND VS SA: Where should Pant bat for India?
While Pant managed to score only 340 runs in IPL 2022, those runs came at a strike rate of 151.79. This backs up Ponting’s statement who wants Pant to be sent in with seven-eight overs to go, giving him ample time to get set and showcase his explosiveness. During India’s first T20I against South Africa, Pant walked in at the 13th over mark and finished with 29 runs off 16 balls. Speaking on the eve of the match, when asked about his role in the batting order, he said, “I think it depends. We will see the conditions. If we feel like we need a floating batting line-up, we will take it forward.” Download one of the best betting apps with a user-friendly design, and plenty of payment options, and enjoy all features and bonuses here on our site.
Marking him as the player to watch out for in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Ponting heaped praise on Rishabh Pant’s batting talent and dynamism. It will be interesting to see how Pant utilises himself now that he is captain of the Indian side for the South Africa series. In the absence of key top-order players, will he keep batting at no. 4 or drop himself down to no. 5, a role that he is likely to play for India during the World Cup.
