Sri Lanka Cricket announced the appointment on April 9th, Saturday. Ashley De Silva, the CEO of Sri Lanka cricket said that Silverwood is just the man they are looking for as the new head coach.
“We are delighted to appoint Chris as the new Head Coach of the national team. He is an extremely experienced coach and from our discussions with him in the recruitment process it is clear he has the required qualities we are looking for to take the team forward,’’
said Ashley De Silva.
Silverwood is an ex-English player who has played 6 Tests and 7 ODIs for the national team. In domestic cricket, he played for Yorkshire and Middlesex.
Silverwood was appointed as the England head coach after England won the 2019 World Cup. Till the WC he was their bowling coach and worked under Trevor Bayliss.
At one point, he was the only man in charge of the Three Lions as all the selection calls were taken by him. He was the chief selector along with being the head coach. But things went south after England lost yet another Ashes series in Australia. Silverwood since his appointment as England’s men’s team head coach always said that his team wants to do well on the tour down under. But England lost the Ashes by 4-0. England’s batting in particular failed them on tour as most batters struggled to score against the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, and Scot Boland.

“I am very excited to be on board with Sri Lanka and I cannot wait to get over to Colombo and get started. They have a talented and passionate group of players and I am really looking forward to meeting up with the players and coaching staff very soon,”
said Chris Silverwood.
Silverwood got massive criticism from critics for coming up with the rotation policy during the last couple of years. England did beat South Africa and Sri Lanka but they lost to India away and are currently trailing them 2-1 in the 5 match Test series at home.
