Although RCB did not play yesterday’s game, it was quite an important game for them. RCB needed Mumbai Indians to win against the Delhi Capitals to help them reach the playoffs. Hence, RCB diverted all their support towards the Mumbai Indians for yesterday’s match.

From changing their DP to blue to send personalized messages to players, RCB did everything possible to mobilize MI, who had a sluggish season this year. MI delivered the wish of RCB with a win against DC in their last league game of the season. Tim David starred in MI’s win against DC last night. Thus becoming a bigger hero for RCB than MI last night.

The Delhi Capitals batted first and posted an easy total of 159. MI, in response, lost Rohit Sharma early. However, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis soon gained control and steadfast the innings further.

After losing Ishan and Brevis in quick succession, MI faltered for a bit with over 50 more runs required to win. Tim David and Tilak Verma then stitched up a crucial partnership that helped MI win the game. MI defeated DC with 5 balls to spare, thus propelling RCB through to the playoffs with 16 points. While DC remained in the 5th spot with 14 points.

While speaking at the post-match presentation, Tim David spoke about his knock and the message he received from RCB players featuring Virat Kohli and Glen Maxwell.

“It’s nice to finish with a win. It’s a good feeling. We got close the other night. We can’t ask for much more than to finish with a win. Ishan as he walked off, he said to me, ‘The wicket’s gotten flatter.’ So it was holding a little bit with the slower balls but you just have to hold your shape, back your game, keep it simple. I think there was a couple of baby sixes today so I got away with a couple. I got a message from Faf this morning. It was a picture of him, Maxi and Virat all in MI kit. Maybe I’ll have to post to Instagram later.”

Tim David once again shone with his splendid batting display and scored a quick 34 off 11 balls comprising 4 sixes. He has batted splendidly this season with scores of 20(9), 44(21), 13(9), 16(7), and 46(18) in his last 5 innings. Speaking about his innings in this game, David added

“I think it’s just about repetition and trying to hold your shape. Maybe early on in the season, I might have been leaning back on the ball and hitting it in the air so I worked really hard on trying to stay over the ball. It’s been tough but our last six games, we played some really good cricket as a team. We won four games which is really promising for our group. We got a bit of confidence from that so that’s really important for us moving forward.

Tim David was granted life when DC captain Rishabh Pant didn’t review a possible edge on his first ball in the middle. Speaking on the same, David replied

“I heard a noise but I wasn’t sure. When there was no review, crack on. I didn’t think I hit it at the time, I thought I hit my pad. But that’s how I’m going.”

Courtesy of MI’s win against DC, RCB will now play the Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator match of IPL 2022 on May 25 in Kolkata.
