T20 World Cup 2022: Former Indian test opener Wasim Jaffer has picked up his opening batsmen for India’s T20 WC team. Though KL Rahul has been in scintillating form, his partner and Indian captain Rohit Sharma have struggled to score runs this year in the IPL. However, both are Wasim’s favorites for the role.

With five months left until the grand event, every cricket expert is coming up with his selections and input for the World cup. Jaffer feels both Rahul and Rohit have a definite place in the team. He also wants Prithvi Shaw in the World Cup squad and has named Ruturaj Gaikwad as a surprise entrant on the list.

“If we are to talk about the openers then I feel the batters who are definite for this position are KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. I think these will surely be there in the World Cup. Apart from that, I feel Prithvi Shaw should be in the World Cup T20 squad and there could be an outside chance for Ruturaj Gaikwad even though his IPL form has not been up to the mark. “

He, however, rightly pointed out Ruturaj’s dull form this year and emphasized being persistent with him. Jaffer believes Ruturaj is a big talent and even though he has not been in the best of form, he can prove important for the team.

“I feel we need to persist with Ruturaj Gaikwad because he is a really big talent. Your IPL might not turn out to be good on many occasions, but I feel these four openers from the IPL must be there”

T20 World Cup 2022: KL Rahul is second in the race for the Orange Cap

KL Rahul has been in tremendous form this year and is second in the race for the orange cap. Rahul has amassed 451 runs in 11 innings, including 2 hundred and 2 fifties. Prithvi Shaw started off well but has not been consistent with his form. He has managed 259 runs in 9 innings with the highest score of 61. Rohit Sharma has had a dismal season this year. He has only managed 200 runs in 11 innings, with a highest of 43 against the Gujarat Titans. Ruturaj Gaikwad too has blown hot and cold this season. He has scored 306 runs in 11 innings. Ruturaj showed glimpses of his yesteryear in his 99 against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week, a sign of a possible return. Jaffer is quite impressed with his style and feels the management needs to be more persistent with him.
