IPL 2022: The Chennai Super Kings woes deepen as their ace bowler Deepak Chahar has picked up another injury and is doubtful of a return for the remainder of the season. Deepak Chahar was under rehabilitation at NCA Bengaluru for his quadricep injury in the series against the West Indies earlier this year.

After affirmative developments on his injury, Chahar was earlier expected to return by the end of April. However, he has now picked up a back injury, adding more to the woes of the Chennai Super Kings. Although CSK is yet to get a formal report from the BCCI over the injury, it is quite likely that he won’t be able to return for the remainder of the tournament.

The four-time champion Chennai Super Kings are going through a horrid run in the IPL this season. CSK have lost four straight games and are at the bottom of the table. Their bowling and batting are not in tandem and seem to be out of tune. CSK is direly missing the services of Deepak Chahar this year. Chahar has been a consistent performer for CSK over the last few years. He picked up 22 wickets in the 2019 season at an average of 21.90 with the best figures of 4/13. IPL 2022: Deepak Chahar was the second most expensive buy in this year’s Auction

Chahar was not retained by CSK ahead of this year’s mega auction. However, the franchise left no stone unturned to rope him back into the side. The 29-year old was instrumental in CSK’s title win last year and has been bought for a whopping INR 14 cr this year. He was the second most expensive buy at this year’s mega auction after Ishan Kishan, who went for INR 15.25 cr.

Chahar is an effective swing bowler who leads with the new ball and has been a part of CSK since 2018. In his 58 matches for CSK, Chahar has 58 wickets with the best figures of 4/13. Out of these 58 wickets, 42 have come in the powerplay.

CSK have a new captain this year. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is leading the team into the 15th edition of the tournament. However, the odds are not is CSK’s favor and they have lost their first four matches this year. CSK’s bowling has been a major let down as nothing seems to have worked so far. The inclusion of Adam Milne, Chris Jordon or Tushar Deshpande has not made any difference. The dismal bowling performances by all-rounder Shivam Dube has left Jadeja in crisis of finding the right combination of bowling.
