TATA IPL 2022 LIVE: Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Anrich Nortje has returned to training ahead of his side’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). For today’s IPL match prediction and match updates, read here.

DC are set to lock horns with LSG on Thursday (April 7) at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Following their 14-run loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) last week, DC head coach Ricky Ponting gave a positive update regarding Nortje’s fitness. According to Ponting, Nortje was just four or five over spells away from receiving clearance to play in the IPL 2022.

In what was great news for DC fans, Nortje was seen bowling in the nets on Monday, for the first time in a very long time. The Proteas bowler has not played a game since the T20 World Cup that took place last year in the UAE. He had suffered a hip and back injury, ruling him out for almost half a year.

The Delhi franchise shared the news regarding Nortje with the fans through a social media post. “Anrich Nortje. Training. That’s it. That’s the post,” DC wrote along with a picture of the bowler in training.

Nortje’s inclusion in the XI will only boost Rishabh Pant’s side, considering they have won only one game out of their last two. However, Nortje will be able to play only on receiving clearance from Cricket South Africa.

“I think he (Nortje) has to get through another maybe four or five-over spell at 100 percent capacity and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa, he should be right to go,” Ponting had said after DC’s loss to GT.

It is believed that DC will receive clearance for Nortje from Cricket South Africa later this week.

The 28-year-old bowler has been a key figure in DC’s camp over the last couple of years. He made his IPL debut during the 2020 season with DC. Nortje picked up 22 wickets in 16 games. He was DC’s second-leading wicket-taker that season, behind Kagiso Rabada. The Proteas duo played a vital role in helping DC reach their maiden IPL final. Unfortunately, they lost the showdown to Mumbai Indians (MI) in Dubai.

Ahead of the IPL 2022, DC chose to retain Nortje, but not Rabada, who went on to join Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the mega auction in February.

Meanwhile, DC’s top order is set to be further strengthened now that Australian opener David Warner has reached India. He missed DC’s opening two games due to his international commitments. In Warner’s absence, New Zealand’s Tim Seifert opened DC’s innings alongside Prithvi Shaw. The Kiwi batsman only managed scores of 21 and 3 against Mumbai Indians (MI) and GT respectively. With Warner’s arrival, Seifert s expected to be benched. Looking for more IPL betting tips and match guides for this season? Find them here.
