TATA IPL 2022 LIVE: New Zealand batsman Devon Conway has revealed that he “always” wanted to play under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Looking for more IPL Cricket betting sites and IPL Match predictions for the 2022 Season? Read more here.

Conway was drafted by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in February. Unfortunately, just two days before the start of the season, Dhoni stepped down as CSK’s captain. The four-time IPL winning captain picked Ravindra Jadeja as his successor at CSK.

Only Rohit Sharma has more IPL titles as captain than Dhoni – five. However, Dhoni is continuing to represent CSK just as a player. Even though the wicketkeeper-batsman may not be the skipper anymore, he is still around to guide newcomers such as Conway.

Speaking to CSK’s media, Conway revealed that he asked Dhoni if he could continue as CSK’s captain for another season.

“I always wanted to play under the great MS [Dhoni] as a captain. I had a nice little conversation with him and said that you sure you don’t want to captain one more season, so I can play under you as captain. But he said, ‘no, but I am always going to be around anyways. It was really cool’,” Conway said in the video posted by CSK on social media.

The BlackCaps cricketer also spoke about the time he had lunch with Dhoni and Jadeja, where he felt that the CSK superstars were “very down to earth and easy to talk to”. Read more 1xbet IPL app reviews here and learn about how online betting works.

“They are just normal men, normal grown guys, just down to earth. No aura about them, easy to get along with, and easy to talk to. So it’s been really good to interact with those two legends of Indian cricket,” Conway said further in the video.

CSK roped in Conway at his base price of INR 1 crore. The 30-year-old entered the big stage of international cricket a tad late. However, he took very little time to cement his place in New Zealand’s national team after making his debut in 2020.

Conway first played for the BlackCaps in the T20Is. He made his New Zealand debut in a home series against West Indies. In the three-match series, Conway finished as the second leading run-scorer with 106 runs in two innings, including the 29-ball 41 he had scored on debut.

In 2021, Conway made his debut in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Tests as well. Having scored 767 runs in seven Tests, Conway averages an incredible 63.91. The top-order batter averages 75 after three ODIs and 50.16 after 20 T20Is for New Zealand. Even in the T20 format, across competitions, Conway has a fine record. He has played 116 T20s and has scored 3,768 runs at 43.31.

The South African-born cricketer did not have the best of starts to his IPL career. He got out for a mere three runs in CSK’s six-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 opening fixture last week at Wankhede Stadium. CSK’s upcoming game in the ongoing IPL season is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
