DC snatched a victory from the five-time champions with four wickets and 10 balls to spare at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Following the loss of quick wickets, including a set Prithvi Shaw, Delhi were down with a lot of runs needed and required run rate shot up to 11.
The arrival of all-rounder Axar in the 14th over really turned things around for Delhi, who were 104 for 6. They needed another 74 runs off 30-odd deliveries. Axar struck three sixes and two fours as he remained unbeaten on 38 off just 17 balls. Lalit, on the other hand, finished with 48 not out off 38 balls.

The 18th over of the second innings, bowled by Daniel Sams, turned out to be quite expensive as Axar and Lalit attacked the bowler by hitting across the park. The Australian gave away 24 runs and from there on, Delhi needed just four runs off the final two overs.
Let’s take a look at 5 Statistics during DC vs KKR on Sunday:
Delhi Capitals
DC featured only two overseas players in their final XI against MI on Sunday: Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell. It was only the second time an IPL team included only two foreign players in their playing XI. The first instance happened during IPL 2022 when KKR included only Jacques Kallis and Eoin Morgan against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Mumbai Indians
MI have not won their opening game of an IPL season since 2012, when they had defeated CSK at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, by eight wickets.

Murugan Ashwin
The spinner had never picked up a wicket in the Powerplay in the IPL. However, when Rohit handed him the ball on Sunday, he made a breakthrough in the very first over he bowled. He removed DC opener, Seifert, in the last over of the powerplay.
Kuldeep Yadav’s IPL comeback
A rough patch over the last couple of years saw Kuldeep Yadav get dropped from the Indian team. In what turned out to be a comeback for Kuldeep, the chinaman finished with figures of 3 for 18 at an economy of 4.50 – his best figures in 15 IPL matches since the start of the 2019 season. It was also his second-best figures in the IPL. On Sunday, Kuldeep took crucial wickets of Rohit and Pollard.
Axar Patel
While Axar had a memorable day with the bat, it wasn’t the case with the ball. He failed to pick a wicket and also gave away 40 runs. His figures of 0 for 40 were his worst figures in IPL since the start of the 2019 season.
Delhi has a good five-day break before they face off against first-timers Gujarat Titans on April 2 in Pune. MI also next plays on the same day against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
