Australia Pacer Mitchell Starc Opens up on Ipl Participation Ahead of Mega Auction
Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has indicated that he is considering putting his name in the mega auction ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Nominations for this year’s IPL auction are set to close on Friday (Jan. 14) and the auction is scheduled to take place on Feb. 12 and 13 in Bangalore.
Even though he is one of the best T20 bowlers in the world, Starc has only played in two seasons of the IPL. He did that back in 2014 and 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Speaking ahead of the fifth Ashes Test in Hobart, Starc has said putting his name in the mega auction is “on the table”, regardless of his international schedule. Here’s the latest bbl points table.
“I’ve got two days to get my paperwork in, so that might be something to do today before training. I’ve not put my name down just yet, but I’ve got a couple more days to decide on that. It’s certainly on the table regardless of what the schedule has got coming up. I haven’t been for six years or so,” Starc told Cricket.com.au.
Starc bagged 34 wickets in 27 matches at an economy rate of 7.16 and a strike rate of 17 during his stint with RCB. Since he plays all formats for Australia, Starc chooses to use the IPL window in April-May each year to rest, recover and spend some time with wife Alyssa Healy. The duo is separated for large parts of each year due to their respective playing timetables.
“Obviously, with a heavy weighting towards T20s over the last period of time and the World Cup coming up later this year, that’s one to take into consideration as well. There’s a bit going on with scheduling and what-not to get our heads around, certainly for us multi-format players,” Starc added in the same interview.

Busy days for Mitch Starc
Starc is currently playing in the Ashes. Australia have won the five-match Test series. They triumphed in the first three Tests with the fourth one at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ending in a close draw. The fifth Test is set to begin on Friday at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
“The schedules are quite jam-packed when you throw in all the tours, we’ve got a couple of white-ball series post the Ashes before that Pakistan tour, then you take into consideration the IPL and the Sri Lanka tour after that. So it’s a massive six months of cricket for everyone,” said Starc.
Even though Starc managed to bag just one wicket at SCG, he is the second leading wicket-taker in the series with 15 scalps, one less than leader Nathan Lyon. Here are the best cricket betting apps for android in india.
Since the Hobart Test is a pink ball game, Starc is expected to be a key figure for Australia, considering he is the leading wicket-taker in the day-night Tests. The left-arm pacer has picked up 52 wickets in just nine day-night Tests, 18 more than second-placed Lyon.
Insisting that he does not need any break, Starc said, “I’m feeling good. It’s purely up to the selectors, I’m not looking for a break. It’s the last Test match of an Ashes series at home, it’s the pink ball too so I’d very much like to play.”
