BCCI wants Rohit Sharma to lead Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Under Rohit Sharma, India finished as runner-up in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at home. The 35-year-old was certain to lead India in the South African T20Is. But what happened? Some media reports confirm that the BCCI contacted Rohit on a video call before announcing the squad. As per a report from Indian Express, it has been learned that the Indian captain asked for a break from the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour.

As a result, Suryakumar was named the captain of the team. Rohit is currently with his family in London on vacation and has asked for a break. A BCCI source told PTI, “Rohit has been offered T20 captaincy, but he is in the UK on holiday and wants an extended break after four months of grueling season till the end of the World Cup. But as captain, he has the highest respect for the dressing room, and if he agrees to lead India in the T20 World Cup, he will lead.”

However, the 35-year-old is expected to return as T20I captain. If everything goes well, Rohit will be leading India in the T20 World Cup 2024. On the other hand, Virat Kohli himself asked for a break from the white-ball series. Both Indian superstars will be featuring in two tests starting on December 26.
