3 Reasons Why Rinku Singh’s selection for South Africa ODIs is a brilliant move
Rinku Singh has established himself as a brilliant finisher in the shorter format. The breakthrough in his career came when he hit five consecutive sixes off GT’s pacer Yash Dayal to take KKR to victory in the IPL 2023. Since then, he has never looked back and performed whenever he got a chance.
Rinku is part of the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia and has played a couple of brilliant knocks. With his consistent performance, the BCCI has given him his maiden ODI call, and he is part of the Indian ODI squad for the South Africa tour. It will be a big series for him. But his inclusion is a positive sign for Indian cricket. Here we will talk about three big reasons why Rinku’s ODI selection is the right move.
1. Consistent performance
Rinku has done pretty well so far in the limited opportunities that he has. He has played eight T20Is and batted in four innings. In those matches, he has scored 128 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 216.95. It shows that he is pretty consistent when it comes to scoring runs at a rapid pace. Adding to that, his form at the domestic level is also pretty good, and he can use his form in his debut ODI series.
2. Next’s Big Finisher for India
Well, since MS Dhoni retired, India has not found someone who can come down the order and finish the game. But the way Rinku Singh has batted so far reflects that he has got a pretty calm head on his shoulders. That can help in a pressure situation. He doesn’t go after the bowling and try to muscle the ball, but he also plays a conventional shot. And if he can do well in South Africa ODIs, he can be India’s next finisher who is pretty calm under pressure.
3. Can Learn in Tough conditions
The conditions in South Africa are pretty different from those in the subcontinent, and it can be a great learning curve for Rinku. The southpaw has shown great maturity so far wherever he has played, but it will bring the best out of him in the ODIs. Everyone knows that Rinku can be pretty dangerous when it comes to hitting the ball. But in ODIs, he will also learn to construct a long innings, which might help him and India in the future.
