After whitewashing New Zealand 3-0 in T20 internationals and beating them 2-0 in Tests, India are now all set to leave for their tour of South Africa on 16th December 2021. The Indian Cricket Team will be playing 3 Tests and as many ODIs during the tour.

Previously, four T20 internationals were also part of the squad. However, the discovery of the new variant of the Covid-19, Omnicron, has led to the tour being planned in a curtailed way. The four T20 internationals, which were part of the squad, will now be held later this year.

India’s tour of South Africa will begin with a three-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to be played from 26th to 30th December at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The second Test will take place from 3-7th January 2022 at Wanderers Stadium, while Newlands Stadium in Cape Town will host the third Test from 11-15th January 2022.

In a big development, Rohit Sharma has taken over the vice-captaincy duties from Ajinkya Rahane in Test Cricket. Virat Kohli, though, continues to lead the Test team. The upcoming Test series will be an opportunity for players to cement their position in the Indian Test Team, while for some, it could be the last Test series of their international career. In this article, let’s take a look at three Indian players to watch out for in the Test series between India and South Africa:

1. Mohammed Shami

It isn’t an unknown fact that the pitches in South Africa assist fast bowlers. The bowlers love bowling here as they tend to get a lot more bounce and seam movement off the surface.

The fast bowlers are once again going to play a vital role in the team’s fortune in the upcoming Test series. The last time India played a Test series in South Africa in 2018, Mohammed Shami claimed the most wickets for India.

He bowled sensational spells and gave India the best chance to win the series. India, though, only managed to win 1 Test out of three. Shami took 15 wickets in 3 Tests at 17.06.

If India needs to win the series and create history in South Africa, Shami ought to return with sensational performances with the ball.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

For those of you who don’t know, Jasprit Bumrah made his Test Cricket debut on India’s last tour of South Africa in 2018. He played the first three Tests in South Africa and returned with 14 wickets at an average of 25.21. He picked his first five-wicket haul in the third Test of the tour.

Bumrah has come a long way since. This time around, he will lead India’s bowling unit, which looks stronger than before. Bumrah has been the wrecker in chief for India among fast bowlers in the last couple of years. Download the best betting apps here.

There is no denying that Bumrah has been India’s best bet in overseas conditions. He was India’s highest wicket-taker in the five-match Test series in England. In 4 Tests, he picked 18 wickets at an average of 20.83. best betting apps

In 2021, Bumrah has taken 25 wickets in 8 Tests at an average of 29.20. There is no denying that the Indian fast bowler will be one of the most important players for the tour of South Africa.

3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

A few days before, Rohit Sharma replaced Virat Kohli as India’s new ODI captain. The latter has been relieved of the captaincy duties in white-ball cricket but continues to lead in the longest format of the game. Virat Kohli has an exceptional record in Test Cricket. Under his captaincy, India won the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia twice and also reached the final of the World Test Championship.

However, there has been a dip as far as his personal batting performances are concerned. Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a century since the last two years. His last century came in a day-night Test against Bangladesh in November 2019.

However, it doesn’t mean that he is a poor form. Virat has been amongst the runs but hasn’t scored those big knocks which he is known for. Read more about our recent 10cric casino review here on our site.

The last time when India played a Test series in South Africa, Virat Kohli scored the most runs. In 3 Tests, he aggregated 286 runs at an average of 47.67. Whether he would replicate those performances this time around remains to be seen.
