The IPL 2024 is scheduled to start on March 22. The first match of the 17th edition will be played at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. It will take place between the defending champion Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. This will kick off another exciting season of the Indian Premier League. The coming season is very important because it will help the players prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

For India, there are no more international matches before the T20 World Cup. Hence, the performance in the IPL 2024 will have a huge impact on selecting the World Cup squad. One name that has been out of action for more than a year is Rishabh Pant. The Southpaw suffered a car accident and has almost recovered as he has gotten a green signal from the NCA.

Ricky Ponting gives an important update on Rishabh Pant’s return as DC captain for the IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant recently played some practice matches, but returning to competitive cricket is a big thing. However, DC’s head coach, Ricky Ponting, made a big statement about Pant’s return in the coming season. In the latest episode of the ICC, Ponting was asked about Pant’s return and whether he would lead the team or not. The former Australian captain confirmed that Pant has started playing cricket, and he has also kept wickets in one or two games.

Ponting said,

“It’s a big decision we’ll have to make because if he is fit, you’d think he’d step straight back into that captaincy role. If he’s not entirely fit and we have to use him in a slightly different role, then we’ve got some decisions to make there.”

The DC head coach also expressed that the management is trying to get Pant fit before the start because the team missed him last season.

Ponting also said that they are waiting to have him back on the team. Notably, DC had a horrible season in 2023, where they finished among the bottom teams. They mainly had problems with their middle-order batting. Pant is a key player for them as he is a consistent batter in the middle orders. If he can make at least as batter, then it will be a huge plus for the Delhi Capitals.
