Three notable exclusions from India’s ODI squad for the West Indies series and know the reasons why
Team India is gearing up for the 2023 World Cup, and their ODI squad is slowly taking shape. The selectors have announced the strong squad to take on the West Indies from 12th July. Three exclusions from India’s ODI Squad.
Suryakumar Yadav has retained his place in the side despite a hat trick from Golden Ducks against Australia.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson are included in the team as well.
Pace Bowling is looking weak as Jasprit Bumrah is still recovering from Injury, and Mohammad Shami has been rested for the series. Mohammad Siraj is now responsible for leading Team India’s pace attack in the West Indies series.
Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
Now there is time to pay attention to the fact that a few names who have been in the ODI scheme of things so far are now missing from the squad. There have been no clarifications from the selectors and BCCI on their exclusion, so we try to point out these decisions and know the reason behind them.
Here are three notable exclusions from India’s ODI squad for the West Indies tour and the probable reasons.
1. Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami has played 90 ODIs for India. He has taken 162 wickets with an average of 25.99 and an economy of 5.61.
Shami has likely been rested for the West Indies tour after a long playing schedule and bowling workload in the last few months. It wouldn’t be good to risk him, especially with Bumrah’s recovery still in the process. Shami will be a crucial player in the Indian bowling attack. He might lead the pace attack during the World Cup 2023.
2. Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar has played 16 ODIs for Team India, scored 233 runs, and picked 16 Wickets, but now he finds himself out of the squad.
The squad has already featured four spinners, which might be why he is not there. Injuries might be the Primary reason behind the exclusion of Washington Sundar. He has missed a large amount of cricket due to injuries.
He has played 4 ODIs in 2023, scored only 21 Runs, and picked two wickets. His form might indicate that his road for the CWC 2023 is stopped for now.
3. Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh’ is one of the most Emerging names in Indian Cricket, he has a phenomenal T20 Career, but his ODI career hasn’t quite taken off. The left-arm pacer has played only three ODIs and still searching for his maiden wicket. This is the main reason for Arshdeep exclusion from India’s ODI squad.
Arshdeep Singh can swing the bowl, and he also bowls well in death overs, but as of now, selectors don’t think he is in plans for CWC 23.
