The unfortunate incident took place in the eighth over of the first innings. On the third delivery of Karn Sharma’s over, Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma played a delivery towards a short fine leg. Running towards his left before diving to stop the ball, Topley hurt himself. He dived to collect the ball but landed awkwardly, with a patch of grass coming out of the ground. The Englishmen was seen in pain and the RCB physio walked in to check on him. A few moments later, the RCB seamer walked off the field while having a chat with the physio.

Before sustaining this injury, Topley bowled two overs conceding only 14 runs in a run-fest in Bangalore and took the important wicket of Cameron Green. He couldn’t continue the game due to injury but his absence couldn’t prevent Mumbai from losing the game. RCB won the game by 8 eight wickets. Speaking after the game, Karthik said the team management is in the wait-and-watch state.

“It (shoulder) did pop out, but it went back in. I think he went for a scan during the game itself. He’s not in as much pain as we thought he’d be in. We’ll have to wait and see,” said Dinesh Karthik.

Earlier, Topley had to miss the T20 World Cup 2022 due to an injury as well. England’s premier white-ball pacer slipped on the boundary sponge at the Gabba in Brisbane in the early phase of the tournament and twisted his ankle. The ankle injury ruled him out for months.

There has been no official word on Topley from the Lucknow franchise but reports suggest that the pacer is likely to miss a majority of the season. Topley is nursing an injury but is currently with the franchise in the hope to regain fitness as soon as possible. However, RCB officials have not predicted the pacer’s availability on whether or not he will be in a position to take the field again in the IPL 2023.
