Coming to the crease with SRH struggling at 28-2, Klaasen immediately launched an assault on the bowlers, bringing up his fifty in a blistering 24 deliveries. Aiden Markram, the SRH captain, joined him, and together they formed a valuable 76-run partnership. While Markram struggled to find his rhythm, managing only 18 runs from 20 balls, Klaasen continued to dominate the proceedings.

Later, Harry Brook joined Klaasen and contributed a useful 27 runs off just 19 balls. Throughout his innings, Klaasen remained in a league of his own, showcasing his remarkable batting prowess. He reached his maiden century in stunning fashion, smashing a six straight over the head of bowler Harshal Patel.

After an extraordinary display of power hitting, Klaasen’s incredible innings came to an end as he headed back to the pavilion, having amassed an astonishing 104 runs off just 51 deliveries, at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 203.92. Thanks to Klaasen’s magnificent century, the Sunrisers Hyderabad set an imposing total of 186/5 on the scoreboard.

This remarkable achievement by Klaasen not only bolstered SRH’s position in the match but also etched his name in the annals of the franchise’s history, adding another chapter to his extraordinary IPL journey. Reflecting on his brilliant knock, Klaasen said:

“Pretty special feeling, fantastic crowd, glad I got it at home. Wicket’s slower than it has been in the season so far. I’m trying to keep my head and hands dead still, sometimes I search the ball with my hands and miss it. I’d love to say we are above par but they’ve got a great lineup. We need to get the big wickets upfront and we’ll be through,” Heinrich Klaasen told the broadcaster in the mid-innings interview.

Having crossed the 25-run mark in each of his previous seven innings, including two half-centuries in addition to his outstanding century against RCB, the South African batsman stands out as the sole SRH player to accumulate over 400 runs in IPL 2023. With an impressive average of over 46 and a striking rate exceeding 172, he has proven to be a vital asset to the team. Notably, his tally comprises three scores of 50 or more, further highlighting his consistency in the tournament.
