Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday, March 6, confirmed that Richardson will not be able to take part in the three-match ODI in India due to the recurrence of a left hamstring injury. Not only the three ODIs, but the bad hamstring will now force him to miss the March Cup final against South Africa, which will be played on Tuesday, March 7.

“Jhye Richardson, who suffered a recurrence of a left hamstring injury while playing club cricket on the weekend, has been ruled out of the one-dayers and replaced by Nathan Ellis in the squad. Richardson has been plagued by injuries in recent times, having missed the back-end of the recent KFC BBL due to this latest hamstring concern. He will now also miss Tuesday’s Marsh One-Day Cup final against South Australia,” said a CA official release.
IPL 2023: Big Blow for Mumbai Indians
Unfortunately for Richardson, he hasn’t represented Australia in an international game since June 2022. He played his last Test against England in the Ashes, after which he was ruled out due to an injury. Injuries have continued to hamper his career as an international cricketer.

Earlier he was ruled out of the Big Bash League (BBL) midway due to which he missed a significant part of the campaign. Richardson limped off with two balls of his final over in the six-wicket defeat to Sydney Thunder. He has also missed a few matches in the Marsh Cup and Sheffield Shield due to the same injury. The injury of Richardson seems serious, and he is set to miss out on the field action for next few weeks or even months.
The Western Australian was bought by the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.5 crore in the IPL auctions last year, but it appears that he will also miss the marquee tournament. This is another huge blow for the five-time champions as they will be already missing the services of India’s premier fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah. In case if Richardson has been ruled out, Mumbai will have to look for his replacement.
