RCB vs GT: Sanjay Bangar Gives an Update on Virat Kohli’s Knee Injury
Virat Kohli is one of the fittest athletes not only in RCB but also in team India. While Royal Challengers Bangalore may not have qualified for the playoffs, Kohli’s fitness is of utmost importance. The BCCI is already dealing with several injury issues and with the WTC Finals just a little over a week away, they will definitely not want their best player to be unavailable. In an attempt to take a catch during the RCB vs GT game, fell on his knee and hurt it. The team’s coach Sanjay Bangar after the game gave an update on the player’s fitness.
After picking up Vijay Shankar’s wicket, Virat Kohli was off the ground for the remainder of the game. In the post-match presentation, Sanjay Bangar applauded the former skipper for making back-to-back centuries. He added that Virat Kohli just had a niggle and there was nothing serious or anything to worry about his fitness. The team’s struggle with the middle order was constant throughout the season. Bangar acknowledged that the factor hindered Bangalore’s development, but he also said that it was important to be patient with the young people.

“He (Virat Kohli) had a bit of a niggle in his knee,” says Sanjay Bangar
“Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don’t think there is anything serious. Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of four days is a special achievement. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. Virat Kohli did a lot of running around. Forty overs a couple of days ago and today [Sunday], for 35 overs he was on the field, he was giving his best. So it is going to bother at some point, but I don’t think it’s anything serious,” Sanjay Bangar said.

Virat Kohli had a great season this time getting over his dip in form this year. The former RCB skipper finished the season with 6 half-centuries and 2 hundreds. The latest century against Gujarat Titans was a historic one as Virat Kohli surpassed Chris Gayle to become the player with the most number of centuries in IPL. A brilliant century by Shubman Gill and a half-century by Vijay Shankar helped Gujarat chase down the 198-run target with 5 balls remaining.
