Watch: Shardul Thakur bowls an “unplayable” bouncer to end Dean Elgar’s Marathon Knock in Centurion
The first test between South Africa and India has reached a stage where one can expect a certain defeat for the visitors. It didn’t go as planned for India from the very start. They lost the toss and were asked to bat first in the seaming conditions. And now an excellent ton by Dean Elgar has almost kicked India out of the game.
The first inning saw a number of Indian batters getting starts, but only KL Rahul could score over 40 runs. He managed one of the best test hundreds and made 101 off 137 balls, with 14 fours and four sixes. Despite that knock, India only managed 245 in the first inning. It looked competitive at the start, but the hosts made a mockery of Indian bowling.

In reply, South Africa got off to a good start. Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi (28) added 93 runs for the second wicket. Then, Elgar added another 131 runs for the fourth wicket with David Bedingham, who made 56 runs. It didn’t stop here. The left-hander scored an important stand of 111 runs for the 6th wicket with Marco Jansen.
During this, Dean Elgar also registered his highest individual score in test cricket. But on the fifth ball of the 65th over, Shardul Thakur ended his marathon innings with a rather unplayable bouncer. Shardul bowled a bouncer, and Elgar couldn’t get away. It took the edge of the bat, and KL Rahul caught the ball.
Elgar got out after scoring 185 runs off 287 runs, with 28 fours. South Africa finished the morning session on Day 3 at 392/7. Jansen is unbeaten on 72 runs with nine fours and one six. The hosts have a lead of 147 runs, and they will look to add as many runs as possible to it to completely push India out of the game.
