Rajasthan Royals’ star batter Shimron Hetmyer hasn’t got enough success with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2023. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has criticised Hetmyer for his one-dimensional approach and reckons that the RR batter should look to hit both sides of the ground.

Simon Doull suggested that Shimron Hetmyer must leave his one-dimensional approach and should consider playing shots on the off side as well. The former cricketer pointed out that the Rajasthan Royals‘ batter only tries to clear his front leg and slog the ball on the leg side.

“Shimron Hetmyer is enormously talented, but he has become one-dimensional. He has become a leg side Larry. He’s got to remember there’s an off side to the ground. He is so big and powerful. He is such a strong individual. He’s got a great base, but he has just become one-dimensional,” Simon Doull stated while speaking to Cricbuzz.

Shimron Hetmyer has got to remember there are two sides to a cricket ground: Simon Doull

“Everything has become clear the front leg and hoick to the leg side. It doesn’t have to be along the ground. He can hit it in the air. But I just think he’s got to remember there are two sides to a cricket ground. If he can do that and give himself an opportunity to hit both sides, I feel like he’s going to be a better player, ” the former cricketer further discussed about Hetmyer’s batting approach.

The RR batter has just scored 253 runs from 23 innings in IPL 2023 which is way less as per the standards set by him. Hetmyer has an impressive strike rate of 149.70 to his name but hasn’t got going in most of the games in IPL 2023.

Rajasthan Royals have faced some issues in their middle order as most of their middle order batters have shown inconsistency throughout the tournament. Shimron Hetmyer has played a couple of impressive knocks but has failed to deliver when his side needed him the most.

Rajasthan Royals are currently placed at the 6th position in the IPL 2023 points table as they have lost 6 out of their 13 games. Hetmyer’s lack of form with the bat has hurt them badly throughout the season.
