IPL 2023: “He is Showing the Intent”- Tom Moody on Rohit Sharma’s Batting Approach

IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma has been in a lean patch since the beginning of IPL 2023 which has hurt his side. Former Australian batter Tom Moody recently pointed out that Rohit has shown positive intent right from the start and looked to dominate the bowlers which is a good sign.

The Mumbai Indians’ captain has just scored 183 runs in the 7 innings he has till now played in the IPL 2023 with an average of 25.88. However, he has looked to take on the opponent bowlers in almost every game and has lost his wicket in the process.

“At the moment, it is nearly like he [Rohit Sharma] has teased this with a couple of performances where you think, ‘Okay, here it comes’, and you are waiting for those floodgates to open. But that’s all we have seen,” Tom Moody said about Rohit Sharma on ESPN Cricinfo.

“We have just seen a couple of little teases. He hasn’t really got out of the blocks. He is showing the intent, which has been important. That’s been the one thing this year is that he’s come out trying to boss it and control it from up front,” the former Australian batter further explained.

In the GT vs MI game on April 25, Mumbai Indians were chasing a massive target of 208 runs after their bowling lineup miserably failed against the Hardik Pandya-led side. Rohit Sharma looked to attack Hardik in the second over. However, Hardik Pandya dismissed him after he scored 2 runs off 8 deliveries.

Rohit Sharma’s failure with the bat has proved to be fatal for the MI franchise as they are not getting the kind of start they need and are losing quite a few wickets in the powerplay overs. His opening partner Ishan Kishan too has failed to impress with the bat in IPL 2023.

The failure of their leader has made it difficult for Mumbai Indians to leave an impact as a team as they are at the number 7 position in the IPL 2023 points table. The MI franchise have already lost 4 out of their 7 games making their way tougher for the playoffs.
