Punjab Kings franchise picked the England all-rounder ahead of IPL 2023 for a whopping amount of INR 18.5 Crore. Multiple franchises wanted to add Sam Curran to their squad after his heroics in the 2023 T20 World Cup in Australia leading to a bidding war among them.

“He’s an international player. But you can’t buy experience with 18 crores. It only comes when you play, when your hair turns white as you play under the hot sun. We think just because he was bought for 18 crores, he will win you matches,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz after the RCB vs PBKS game.

“He doesn’t have that experience yet. It was poor running, there was no need for that. You’re captain, you should’ve stayed, tried to take it to the final overs. But again, the lack of experience cost him,” the former batter pointed out to Sam Curran’s lack of experience.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had posted a competitive total of 174-4 in their 20 overs. In response to RCB’s total, Punjab Kings got off to a terrible start as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals while opening batter Prabhsimran Singh held one end but didn’t get any support from the other end.

Punjab Kings’ stand-in skipper Sam Curran came in to bat at the number 6 position just within the powerplay overs. They had a score of 43-4 and needed him to anchor their innings in order to get closer to the target in the RCB vs PBKS game.

However, he was dismissed in the 10th over as he looked for a quick single but was quite lazy between the wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga who was fielding at backward point realized Sam Curran was running casually and aimed at the stumps to get rid of the Punjab Kings’ skipper as Curran looked pretty embarrassed while walking back to the pavilion.
