Amidst the setback of their third overall loss and second against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2023, the indomitable spirit of the head coach Stephen Fleming shines bright as he remains sanguine about the invincible batting line-up of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), asserting that no modifications are needed, despite falling short of 32 runs in reply to Rajasthan’s colossal total of 202/5 with CSK managing to muster 170 runs.

With the weight of expectation upon him in the post-match press conference, the seasoned coach of CSK Fleming was posed with the prospect of reshuffling his batting lineup to enhance the team’s scoring potential, but he spoke with confidence and clarity, citing the impressive performances of Ajinkya Rahane and Devon Conway in their designated positions during the season thus far.

“The set roles are very important. (Ajinkya) Rahane has been great for us at No. 3. We don’t mess with things that are going well. It was just today we came up against a team that took the pace off the ball. We couldn’t get any real momentum in the first six overs. Devon Conway, who is in outstanding form, couldn’t get underway. The rhythm of the innings was slow. When we tried to catch the game up, we made mistakes,” Stephen Fleming told reporters in the post-match press conference.

Fleming graciously recognized the impressive efforts of the home team, who expertly capitalized on the powerplay overs, ultimately establishing a dominant tone for the match. During the course of the run chase, the Royals’ bowling attack exhibited discipline and managed to limit the Super Kings to a paltry 42 runs in the powerplay phase spanning from the first to the sixth over.

“The first six overs, they were outstanding with the bat and the ball as well. That just set the two innings up for them. We could have been better, but part of that is playing away from home – trying to find out the right length to bowl, what sort of swing conditions we are going to get. That’s part of the challenge of playing away,” Fleming concluded.
