IPL 2023: Big Setback for GT; Kane Williamson Ruled Out of Reminder of 2023 Edition, Reports
IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans started the 2023 season with a win over the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings on Friday. They registered a 5-wicket win on their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad. GT has now won three out of three games against CSK in the IPL. It was a complete team effort for Gujarat in their first game, and almost everything went according to plan. But one huge setback that GT faced in the first game was an injury to Kane Williamson.
It happened in the 13th over of the first over. Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a ball to the leg-side boundary off Joshua Little. The ball was sailing over the boundary line, and Williamson jumped up for a catch and caught the ball. But he couldn’t maintain the balance and went over the line, but landed awkwardly on his right leg. Though he saved two runs for his team, he was seen in severe pain. The physio came to see him, and he was taken off the field right away.

IPL 2023: Kane Williamson ruled out of the 2023 season due to injury
GT skipper Hardik Pandya was also uncertain about the status of the injury. That’s what he told after the win in the post-match presentation. There was no official update from the franchise about the injury either. However, as per the report from Sports Tak, it is learned that the Kiwi skipper has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing season. Though any official confirmation is still pending from the franchise.

But if this happens, it will be a big setback for the defending champions because Williamson comes with a load of experience and can be a crucial member of any batting lineup. Notably, GT replaced him with Sai Sudharshan as the Impact Player in the game against CSK. He scored a 17-ball 22, with three boundaries in it.
Earlier in the game, CSK made 178/7 batting first. Gaikwad missed a well-deserved century and made 92 off just 50 balls. In reply, Shubman Gill started well for GT. He made 63 off 36. With some cameos in the end, GT reached 182/5 in 19.2 overs. Rashid Khan won “Player of the Match” for his 2/26 and an unbeaten 3-ball 10.
