On the other hand, the four-time champion had some areas of concern during the game, which cost them the match. It started with GT winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. CSK got off to a flying start with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad playing some brilliant shots. He scored a 24-ball half-century and was looking to take CSK to a big total.

IPL 2023: “Ruturaj Gaikwad was brilliant”- MS Dhoni lauds the CSK Opener
Batting first, CSK reached 178/7 in their first inning. Gaikwad was unlucky and missed his century by eight runs. He was dismissed for 92 off 50, including four boundaries and nine sixes. Apart from him, not many CSK batters contributed much. In reply, GT started well with their openers. Shubman Gill played a good inning of 62 off 36, with six fours and three sixes.

GT made 182/5 in 19.2 overs to win the game. After the game, CSK skipper MS Dhoni highlighted the error made by them. In the post-match presentation, he also lauded Gaikwad and debutant Rajvardhan Hangargekar for their performances. MSD said,
“We all knew there will be dew. We could have done a bit more with the batsman-ship. Ruturaj (Gaikwad) was brilliant. I think it’s important for the youngsters to step in. Raj (Hangargekar) has pace and he will get better with time, a no-ball is something that’s in your control, so you need to work on that. I felt two left armers will be a better option so I went ahead with them.”
Rashid Khan was the Man of the Match with his all-around effort. He picked up two wickets (2/26) and scored an unbeaten 3-ball 10 to help GT in the chase. CSK will now play Lucknow Super Giants on Monday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
