3 Massive Reasons Why Spending INR 20.5 crore on Pat Cummins is the Biggest Blunder for SRH
The IPL 2024 auction is taking place in Dubai, and it is raining money on some of the players. This auction has broken all the previous records. The previous record for the most expensive player was held by England’s Sam Curran, who was bought by the Punjab Kings at a price of 18.5 crore in 2023.
But Australian captain Pat Cummins has gone past that figure. Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a remarkable deal and have signed the Australian captain for a whopping price of INR 20.5 crore, making him the costliest player in IPL history. However, this deal could go either way. Here we will talk about three reasons why SRH made a blunder by spending so much money on Pat Cummins.
Three Reasons that SRH made a blunder by spending 20.5 Crore on Pat Cummins at IPL 2024 Auction
3. Inconsistency in the IPL
Pat Cummins is one of the top players at the international level. But his record in the IPL is not up to his standard. In 42 IPL games, he has taken 45 wickets at an economy rate of 8.54 and scored 379 runs at an average of 18.95, which is not good enough to become the most expensive IPL player. His inconsistency in the IPL is one prime reason that SRH made a possible blunder.
2. Spending over 70 percent of purse value on one player
SRH entered the IPL 2024 auction with a remaining purse value of INR 34 crore. And they earlier spent INR 6.8 crore on Travis Head, and they were left with a purse of around INR 27.2 crore. Among that, they spent more than 70 percent on Pat Cummins, which has left them with a remaining purse value of around 5 crore, and they can’t bid for other players, which could make their team stronger.
1. Only four Overseas Players in Playing XI
As per the rule in the IPL, there are only four overseas players allowed in the playing XI. And now, if we look at the combination for the SRH, they have Aiden Markram as the captain and Heinrich Klaasen as the wicketkeeper, which are musts for the team. Then, Travis Head will be the first-choice opener, and Marco Jansen, who has been a genuine in-form all-rounder, will be the other player. So Pat Cummins making a place in playing XI will be a big challenge.
