RCB vs LSG: “Thought it Was Going to be Marcus Stoinis Opening The Batting”- Deep Dasgupta on LSG’s Opening Combination Against RCB
RCB vs LSG: LSG skipper KL Rahul got injured while fielding during the RCB vs LSG game after which Ayush Badoni came in to open the innings along with Kyle Mayers. Former Indian keeper Deep Dasgupta reckons that Marcus Stoinis should have been promoted up in the batting order in the absence of KL Rahul.

The wicket at the Ekana Cricket Stadium was spin-friendly which made it tougher for LSG batters to score freely against Royal Challengers Bangalore spinners. Despite, KL Rahul not being fit to open the innings, Lucknow Super Giants didn’t promote Marcus Stoinis in the batting order and sent him to bat at the number 5 position.

“When KL Rahul was not going to open, I thought it was going to be Marus Stoinis opening. If it’s going to be predominantly spin bowling in the middle overs, you’d rather have Stoinis open when the ball is a bit new. A great example was that shot he played on the second ball he faced, ” Deep Dasgupta said about Marcus Stoinis on ESPN Cricinfo.
IPL 2023: “It would have been comparatively easier if Marcus Stoinis had opened the innings” – Deep Dasgupta
“If Stoinis would have come in there, it would have been comparatively easier once he would have settled down and then played spin. You have someone like Ayush Badoni, a domestic player who plays spin well. Have him for the middle overs rather than him an opening,” the former Indian keeper discussed after RCB vs LSG game.

Ayush Badoni was sent in as the opening batter by the LSG management in place of the injured KL Rahul. The young batter failed to score big as he was dismissed by RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood after scoring just 4 runs off 11 deliveries.
On the other hand, Marcus Stoinis started his innings with a monstrous six against Josh Hazlewood. However, the mighty all-rounder couldn’t tackle the RCB spinner and was dismissed by Karn Sharma after scoring 13 runs off 19 deliveries.
None of the LSG batters could settle on the pitch against RCB spinners while sending in Stoinis at the top could have helped them in attacking the RCB bowling lineup. They were eventually bowled out for mere 108 runs as they fell short by 18 runs in the RCB vs LSG clash.
