IPL 2023: “Ordered Coffee But Had To Leave It And Run”, Axar Patel
IPL 2023: Off the field as much as on it, Axar Patel has been in excellent form. The all-rounder has been the team’s lone bright spot thus far in a less-than-perfect IPL 2023 season for the Delhi Capitals. Axar’s positive attitude off the field has also been affected by his remarkable performance with both bat and ball.

In nearly every post-match contact, whether with the broadcasters or the reporters, the left-arm spinner, who has also been in excellent form with the bat, has been smiling and making people laugh. Axar’s attitude and performance finally began to bear fruit for DC as the Delhi-based team recorded successive victories after five straight losses to stay in the playoff race. Axar Patel’s all-around mastery was a major factor in DC’s victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven runs in a low-scoring game at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.

IPL 2023: “I Had No Clue”, Says Axar Patel
The left-hander came on to bat when DC was in trouble at 62 for 5, and he and Manish Pandey put together an invaluable 79-run partnership to enable the visitors to score a solid 144/9. Axar opted to work hard with Manish Pandey and abandoned his natural attacking approach. Pandey scored 34 from 27 balls and 34 runs per ball.
After the game, the DC vice-captain admitted that when three wickets fell in one over, he had to abandon his coffee in the dressing room and rush out into the middle.

Axar said with a smile in the post-match presentation“I had no clue. I ordered coffee and left the glass like that when I learned three wickets had fallen in one over. I came running into the ground and started thinking about what to do. Pandey and I discussed we need to take it as deep as possible.”
DC lost captain David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan, and Aman Khan in the 8th over of the match to off-spinner Washinton Sundar.
Axar Patels’ Batting Performance
Axar once again shone out with 2 for 21 as DC bowlers came out firing after another disastrous batting performance. The left-arm spinner claimed the surface was a little slow, and as a result, he would value his 34 runs more highly than his two ball-side wickets.
Patel said“2/21 happened because I scored 34 in 34, so the runs were more important,” Axar said when asked about his all-round show. It was slow (surface). The ball was coming off slowly. I felt Kuldeep could tie up the batters on this surface. We have bowled well in partnerships before, so it was enjoyable. (Whose wicket did he enjoy more, Mayank’s or Markram’s?) I keep getting wickets by knocking over batters but getting a wicket off the slower one (Mayank’s wicket) was more enjoyable.”
