IPL 2023: “We Have a Good Option With Axar”- Pravin Amre
IPL 2023: According to Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Pravin Amre, the team may think about giving Axar Patel a bigger batting role in the current Indian Premier League (IPL). The team led by David Warner has had a dismal start to the year, having dropped each of their first three matches. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, they will play the five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 16th game of the IPL 2023 on Tuesday, April 11.

Amre thinks Axar, who has spent the last five years with Delhi, is a good alternative for DC because their batting has been a huge failure. He also spoke about his outstanding batting during the March-ending Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He continued by saying that the team is debating using the southpaw in the upcoming contests.

IPL 2023: “He has been with us for five years now” – Pravin Amre on Axar Patel
Amre said during the pre-match press conference“We have a good option with Axar. He has been with us for five years now. The way he has batted for India was remarkable. He is a candidate, especially since he is a left-hander. It’s been on our minds on how we can utilize him best.”
Despite his lack of form, Pravin Amre, the assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals, is also optimistic about Prithvi Shaw’s performance in the forthcoming IPL 2023 games. The 54-year-old said the Washington opener has potential as a hitter and that his squad continues to have faith in him and is rooting for him to succeed. Shaw has had trouble at the plate thus far, scoring just 19 runs in three innings.

Delhi Capitals’ Batting In Powerplay
Said Amre“Prithvi is a capable batter. But yes, he hasn’t delivered according to our expectations. We are hopeful that he will deliver for us in the coming matches. We all know that he has the ability. It’s a matter of where he clicks.”
Amre emphasized that DC must improve their at-bat during power plays, as the team has registered power play scores of 47/2, 52/2, and 38/3 over the past three contests. Also, he said that if the team scores run from the first four batters, they will shift gears and consider who can bring in those runs. In DC’s three games, none of the top-order batters have spent much time on the crease other than Warner.
The Australian has hit two half-centuries but has a low strike rate of 117.04, which is uncharacteristic of a batsman of his stature. The change would not only offer Captain Warner some breathing room, but it would also allow the powerful Rossouw to play freely and without hesitation. Even though it is still early in the current IPL season, how the Delhi Capitals have lost their first three games suggests that a small batting order adjustment is necessary.
