Former cricketer Pietersen was mesmerized by the events at the stadium. And said the team should keep the captain, no matter how old he is. He continued by saying Dhoni might have a chance in the upcoming seasons with the “Impact Player” clause coming into play.

“He Is a Fit Guy”: Kevin Pietersen

“I think everybody wants to keep going. With the Impact Player becoming more relevant now, I think he can. This is one tournament he needs to get up for. He can rest his body. If something is wrong with his knee, he can try to sort it out over the next few months. Why not? He is a fit guy. He is an athlete. He must love this. Why would he want to give this away? He is under no pressure. He doesn’t have to perform. And for his kids, for his wife, for his family, how amazing must this have been?”

Pietersen told on Star Sports

Many supporters lingered after the game versus KKR to see the athlete in person. Pietersen, astounded by the outpouring of love and support for the 41-year-old captain, praised Dhoni for the kind of person he is off the field and added that all he needs to do to stay in the game is be himself.

MS Dhoni’s Role In IPL

“Look at the people who have stayed back to see, to try and touch him because of the person that he is. He is also an incredible human being away from the cricket field. These are wonderful scenes, hugely emotional seasons. This is such a fabulous gesture.”

Pietersen said

The adoration for Dhoni among the public deeply moved Pietersen. The former England captain was moved to praise Dhoni’s character after seeing so many fans hang around after the game just for him. Dhoni will probably return to play at Chepauk again in the playoffs following CSK’s final league match against Delhi Capitals. The Super Kings must avoid making another mistake in the playoff race to finish among the top two teams.
